SAP Unveils New Generative AI Tools for Developers at Tech

SAP’s recent TechEd event brought a wave of exciting developments aimed at leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI) for developers. According to Juergen Mueller, SAP’s CTO, the ever-changing technology and business landscape require every developer to also be an AI developer. In response to this demand, SAP introduced several new solutions and tools to provide developers with the necessary resources to transform the way businesses operate.

One of the highlights of SAP’s latest offerings is SAP Build, a platform designed to facilitate collaboration between professional and citizen developers. This platform includes AI-powered productivity tools and takes advantage of SAP’s new generative AI co-pilot, Joule. With the help of Joule, developers can now generate code for data models, application logic, and test scripts, increasing their productivity significantly.

Recognizing the importance of data in AI, SAP HANA Cloud has added vector database features, at no extra cost, to its suite of solutions. These features allow for the management of unstructured data like text, images, and audio, providing AI models with context and long-term memory. As an example, this enables users to search for suppliers based on language found in contracts, allowing for more in-depth analyses of payment history and individual orders while maintaining security and privacy.

SAP also announced the launch of AI Foundation on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). This comprehensive platform empowers developers to create AI- and generative AI-powered extensions and applications. It includes ready-to-use AI services, access to large language models, vector database capabilities, and AI runtime and lifecycle management.

In addition to these advancements, SAP is also committed to upskilling two million professionals by 2025. To achieve this, the company has introduced role-based certification and free learning resources for back-end developers, covering ABAP development tools on SAP BTP and SAP S/4HANA. These resources aim to facilitate agile and cloud-compliant business transformation.

Furthermore, SAP has joined forces with the Stanford HAI Corporate Affiliate Program. This partnership will bring together SAP’s researchers and engineers with the academic community at Stanford, exploring the intersection of generative AI and business.

As the technology landscape continues to evolve, SAP’s latest developments in generative AI will play a significant role in reshaping the way developers and businesses operate.
